Academy Match Report: Scarborough Scholarship 2-1 Bradford Park Avenue

Wednesday 6th December
English Colleges League

Scarborough Football Scholarship vs Bradford Park Avenue
Half Time: 0-0
Full Time: 2-1
Goal from Lewis Johnson

It was a trip to the seaside this week for the College team for a league game against Scarborough. With the seagulls struggling with the windy conditions on the north east coast it was going to be a test for both teams. A number of players were making their debuts in a BPA shirt and where better to start than at the newly built Flamingo Land Stadium. Scarborough came out the strongest and controlled possession and play for the majority of the first half but the Avenue boys held on and going into half time it was a level playing field. However, on the hour mark Avenue finally succumbed to the relentless pressure as Scarborough slotted home their first of two. With squad rotation and the first loss in the college league on the cards, Captain Lewis Johnson was moved to play upfront which quickly had an impact as he smashed the ball past the Scarborough keeper after a great ball over the top from keeper George Widdop. It could have been a draw with Johnson once again finding the back of the net, however there was deemed to be a hand ball in the build up. Overall grit, determination and desire was shown by the scholars but on the day they just could not scrape a result.
