National Alliance North U19s league
Bradford Park Avenue v AFC Emley
Half time 0-3
Full time 1-4
Monday night at the Horsfall and Park Avenue U19s welcomed AFC Emley U19s.
After the improvements made from last season by the team expectations were high and with Mark Bower in attendance it was time for players to impress.
However, the first ten minutes did not go to plan and Avenue found themselves down 1-0. What followed was a half of one way traffic with Avenue’s shape, on pitch communication and fight nearly non existent. Some good defensive play by Ross Boyle and saves again from Alfie Stevens- Neale kept the score to 0-3.
As the teams reappeared after half time a lift and response was needed by Park Avenue. A small improvement was seen but opportunities were missed and Emley got themselves back on track and resumed normal services like in the first half with the ball once again ending up in Park Avenue’s net. In a game of little positives there were some silver linings with good performances from Ross Boyle, Jack Carter and Thomas Conlon all of whom showed desire, grit and determination throughout.
A great finish from Bradley Oliver gave Avenue a late consolation goal but there was not much else to cheer about. It is a learning curve for Meechan’s men but they have a quick turn around with a game on Wednesday to show Alex, Mick and the Academy staff that they can bounce back.
