Gaffers Notes Bradford Park Avenue V Salford City Sat 28th October. 13.30 KO

Welcome to Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley and everyone connected with Salford for today’s game. Today will be our toughest test of the season against a big, strong team full of quality players. Salford have clearly invested heavily in their team and their ambition will be to be promoted at the end of the season. Whilst it always helps having a healthy budget, I think their managers deserve a lot of credit for the success they have had over the past few years and for me, they look the outstanding and best equipped team this season to go on and win the league.

Last weekend we dominated the game at Darlington, so we were very disappointed to lose. We controlled the game for large periods, created several chances and limited their opportunities but ultimately a mixture of misfortune and not being ruthless enough in both boxes cost us.

There’s a good atmosphere at training and the team are ready for today’s match. Salford are a fit side who started well this season, so did Harrogate but I’m confident today after a well earned draw, we can bring a great game of football to our home crowd. They are a quality team and we are well aware that they have some great players, so we have got to work together in order to get the right result at Horsfall Stadium today.

At Harrogate on Tuesday night, after a difficult opening half hour, we played well again against the team at the top of the table. Night games for us as a part time team can be tricky when coming up against full time teams as most of our players were at work on Tuesday afternoon, whilst the Harrogate players had their feet up in preparation for the game and this showed in the opening period.

Once we got going, we more than matched them, scored a great goal and should have won the game in injury time at the end. Again we had to contend with a terrible penalty decision going against us and our unhealthy relationship with crossbars and posts continued, but there are plenty of positives we can take from the game and we must continue to work hard and I’m sure our luck turn.

‎Thanks for all your support today and enjoy the match.
