So after a month off due to lockdown and only one training session under the belt we visited Altofts Ladies who were top of the league and already beaten us on our patch this season.
Altofts started strong keeping hold of the ball well with the Avenue Ladies staying disciplined and frustrating the higher opposition.
Altofts were getting frustrated and started making mistakes with no real threats at goal the Avenue Ladies nipped in stole the ball and counter attacked with purpose.
If it wasnt for the Altofts keeper it could have been 2 or 3 before have time with Kirsty Russell Nicole Chamberlain and Millie West carving out glorious oppotunities.
Avenue went into half time on the front foot and expecting Altofts pepper Avenues goal for the 1st 10 mins of the 2nd half, but that never came!
Avenue could have easily had two more great chances before Altofts broke the deadlock with at tap in at the back post when we failed to clear our lines.
10mins later it was 2-0 Altofts with the rain hammering down a long ball skidded off our defenders foot and left Altofts with a 1 on 1 with Annie Roberts.
The game was end to end in horrible conditions but as the 1st goal Altofts got the 3rd with a back post tap in from a corner.
By this point Avenue were playing 2-3-5 to try and finish the game on a high but it never came.
Full time 3-0 loss with a superb performance under the circumstance of the weather and lockdown but 1 very proud manager of the workrate and effort produced. All the players held their heads high and will feel it Monday at work.

We wanted to bid a sad, fond and belated farewell to Trevor Jowett who we have just learned was taken from us by the COVID virus in April of this year.
Trevor was involved with non-league football for many years and he came to Bradford Park Avenue from Ossett Town. He initially took over as Secretary from Steve Burnett and remained in that role for many years.
Trevor, along with his wife Joyce did the Match day hospitality, looking after the match officials as they arrived for the game, as well as visiting Directors and Sponsors before the game and at half time.
His work during the game wasn’t done there, he also did many other things on match day, counting match day receipts, helping Joyce with the players food after the game in the Club House and paying the Referee and his Assistants. When Bradford Park Avenue were in the Northern Premier League he represented the club at Blackpool for the League’s AGM.
In their retirement Trevor and Joyce were always welcome, as guests at the Horsfall Stadium and he will be sadly missed.

Bradford (Park Avenue) welcome Gloucester City to the Horsfall Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a game which involves two reeling sides desperate for a victory.
It’s safe to say that it’s not been the season both Avenue and Gloucester fans would have been hoping for at the start of the season, and with both teams staring relegation directly in the face as we reach the final few months of the season, anything but three points will be a disaster to either side when they meet this weekend.
The two sides have already played each other twice this season and the results were shared — Gloucester ran out 1-0 winners in October, while Bradford gained revenge with a 2-0 victory in the FA Trophy a month later, with both games taking place at City’s Jubilee Stadium.
Since that result against Bradford in the FA Trophy, Gloucester’s run of form has taken an almighty turn for the worst. At that point, they sat comfortably in mid table in the National League North, but since then, they have gone on a run involving just one win in ten, with a 6-1 defeat to Alfreton Town just last week, which leaves them languishing in 20th place — just one spot above the relegation zone.
Avenue, though, are in an even worse position and three points are neccessary for Mark Bower’s side this weekend if they are to have any hope of surviving relegation this season. A loss, or even a draw against one of their main relegation rivals will probably leave Bradford resigned to their fate with still over 2 months left to play in the season.
The Green Army are still showing plenty of fight, and they proved it last time out in a thrilling 3-3 draw away at playoff chasing Southport. It was a game in which they took the lead twice through Lewis Knight and Tom Clare, but ultimately they could not hang on for all three points and needed a Billy Priestley header to equalise late on and rescue a draw.
Hard work isn’t the issue for Avenue, and they are playing relatively well in games but defensive lapses and at times, not showing enough of a clinical nature are what is haunting them this season and leaves them in the position they are in. But hopefully the three goal output at Southport will be the start of a more clinical approach for an Avenue side desperately in need of points in order to make what would be an unbelievable great escape.

The course is a 2-year, full-time education and football development programme for 16-18 year olds.
The academic curriculum is delivered by SCL Education Group and the training is delivered by the highly experienced coaching team of Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC Academy.
Year 1 – BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport
Year 2 – BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport
Academy teams play in the U19 Alliance Football League and the ECFA Yorkshire and Humber Region invitational league 2B
4-5 GCSE’s Level 9-4 including English or Maths, or both.
You will need to be 16 years old by 31st August, ready to start the programme in early September.
Avenue goalkeeper Rhys Taylor has been named in the Vanarama National League North team of the week.
The Bradford skipper had a tough debut away at Alfreton Town, but has followed that up with consecutive clean sheets – the club’s first of the season – against Blyth and Darlington.
Taylor has impressed in those matches despite carrying a knock, making a string of fine saves to keep both North-East based sides at bay.
He had to be alert within 30 seconds of the Blyth clash, keeping out Adam Wrightson, before doing brilliantly to deny the same player as the visitors scored from the rebound – though the offside flag went up.
It wasn’t until the dying seconds of that match that Taylor showed his ability once more, denying Robbie Dale who looked a cert to score when through one-on-one.
He started the Darlington game in similar fashion, blocking Will Hatfield’s effort well before reacting brilliantly to prevent Justin Donawa from prodding the ball past him.
The former Fylde stopper then made a stunning save to keep out a Darlinton header which had rebounded off the inside of the post and looked destined for the back of the net.
Taylor went on to save with his legs from Adam Campbell and keep out Louis Laing’s deflected effort, before guessing right for Stephen Thompson’s 97th minute penalty, only to see it thump the outside of the post.
The goalkeeper will be looking for more of the same this Saturday as he will be expected to line up in Avenue’s home contest with AFC Telford United.

The 12 weeks I have been at Bradford (Park Avenue) FC have been an enjoyable experience wherein I have learnt many different skills that aren’t taught as part of my degree. This is mainly down to Tally, the placement supervisor. She is very welcoming and ensures you feel comfortable in your new environment. Not only this, the players are very friendly and funny and as such make you feel welcome in your new role as their sports therapist. The whole group of staff and players have all but cemented my decision to pursue a career in sports therapy.
Whilst on placement, we learnt new techniques, rehabilitation procedures and injury prevention. During my time there, I saw an array of different injuries which in turn improved my knowledge of the common injuries seen in football. Sitting pitchside on the bench was a whole new experience and opened my eyes to a different side of football. My time at BPA has given me a new love in football and I will carry on to follow their results for the remainder of the 2018/19 season and hope for promotion from the national north league. Thank you for the experience.

My placement at Bradford Park Avenue (BPA) has not only been extremely enjoyable but also very rewarding. Tally has been an excellent supervisor and helped me develop my skills as a sports therapist. Tally has done this by furthering my understanding of rehabilitation plans, soft tissue massage and injury prevention. Everyone at BPA has been very welcoming, from the players to the owner. It has been a privilege to have a placement at such a great club for the 2018/2019 season and have enjoyed every minute of it! It has given me the reassurance I needed that I want to work in a sporting environment. I would highly recommend any students wanting to do placement to work with Tally and the club.

I found my time at Bradford Park Avenue Football club a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I gained an insight into what it is like to work within the industry and it was a great learning curve. Two months of placement has given me confidence in that fact that I would be able to pursue a career in sports therapy upon graduation. My placement provider Tally, from start to finish she made me feel comfortable, taking me through the process and teaching me the knowledge that is only available through hands-on work as opposed to working from a textbook. The players at Bradford Park Avenue made my experience a much more positive one, as they created a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, making me feel part of the team, rather than a university student. I would love to return to the club in the future if any help was needed and it has been an honour to work as a part of the team for the past two months.

My Sports Therapy Placement at Bradford Park Avenue has really opened my eyes to working within the world of sport. My placement supervisor, Tally, was extremely helpful throughout my time at Bradford and helped me build my confidence in identifying, diagnosing and treating injuries accordingly. I feel like my therapy skills have come on leaps and bounds over my short 10-week placement. Tally, the other staff members and the team themselves were all so friendly and worked hard to make me feel comfortable while at placement and involve me into the team dynamics. Although I am happy that BPA has helped me start my developing career into a sports therapist, I am also very sad to be leaving this placement and hope that if any help is ever required in seasons to come that they give me a shout.
