We’re delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Jake Thompson, subject to league and FA approval.
The 27 year old joins BPA after a recent spell with Matlock Town and brings plenty of versatility, power and he has a keen eye for goal too.
Born in Halifax, Thompson started his football career at Huddersfield Town before spending time with local neighbours Eccleshill United, Liversedge and Silsden. The midfielder made the move to the North West, playing for Ramsbottom United, Bamber Bridge and Radcliffe FC, where we won promotion to the National League North.
Thompson joined Hyde United during the pre-season of 2023-24 before moving to the Gladiators in October 2024.
A local lad, Thompson is delighted to wear the BPA shirt:
“I’ve watched this Club a lot over the years and you can see the positive direction it’s now heading in. You only have to look at the lads who’ve stayed and who we’ve signed to see what we want to achieve. I saw the boys play in the Playoff Final and the intensity they played with, we’ll do everything we can to get one step further this coming season.”
His new manager Craig Elliott has come up against Thompson a lot over the years, but is now delighted to have him in his squad:
“Jake is a player I’ve been aware of for some time and I’ve tried to sign him a few times. I’m delighted he chose to join us over other teams, who play at a higher level. His experience of playing for big teams and having the flexibility to play numerous positions will make him a very important player for us.”
Everyone at the Club welcomes Jake to the Horsfall Community Stadium and wish him all the best in his time at BPA.
We’d like to thank the generosity of our supporters, who continue to make valuable donations, and the ongoing support of the Development Fund to help Craig and his team build a competitive squad for next season. You can watch Jake in action with a 2026-27 season ticket, which can be bought from the club shop at the stadium every Wednesday between 5-8pm. As a club who relies heavily on volunteers, we’re sure you’ll appreciate there is limited availability of people being able to offer their time. But, there will be more opportunities to buy season tickets and merchandise soon. Your support is greatly appreciated.
