BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Sport

The Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Sport offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, while allowing for the acquisition of skills and experience through the selection of Optional units. The HNC Programme consists of eight units at Level 4, each of 15 credits, with a total qualification time on the programme of 1,200 hours and total guided learning of 480 hours.

Units that a student should expect to complete as a result are listed below. There are three Mandatory Units, with a further five Optional Units selected based on offering a fully rounded, engaging programme to HNC students. Students would be expected to attend class two full days a week.

All assessments are assignment based marked on a pass, merit and distinction basis.

BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Sport

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Sport helps students develop a sound understanding of the principles in their field of study and learn how to apply those principles more widely.

Entry onto the HND in Sport is dependent on the completion of the 120 credits delivered as part of the HNC programme, or an equivalent Level 4 qualification. Grades achieved as part of the Higher National Certificate will not count towards the overall grade achieved on the HND. Students would be expected to attend class two full days a week.

Entry Requirements

· HNC – A GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths. Alongside this, UCAS points adding up to 80 in total (an MMP grade or above on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, or DM grade or above on the BTEC Level 3 Diploma) in related subjects. This would be Sport in most cases but may also relate to other subject areas.

· HND – Applications are accepted on the basis of a previously attained HNC qualification in the same Sport pathway. If you have completed alternative Level 4 study in Sport at a different provider, this may be accepted for a place on the HND should the requisite evidence be provided.
