Lenaghan to move from First Team to Academy

The Club would like to announce Karl Lenaghan has stepped away from his goalkeeper coach duties, for the first team.

Lenaghan, who has racked up 50 years in football, will now support the Academy and help create the pathway to Craig Elliott’s side.

The goalkeeper coach has made the decision based on personal circumstances, but we’ll continue to see Karl around the Horsfall Community Stadium, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The coaching staff of Craig Elliott and Ryan Toulson will work with Sporting and Executive Director Tom McStravick to find a suitable replacement. When an appointment has been made, we’ll let supporters and sponsors know as soon as possible.

Bradford (Park Avenue) manager Craig Elliott said:

“I’d like to thank Karl for his support since I joined BPA. He has been a vital part of my staff, a hard-working coach who pushed the goalkeepers and players, as a collective, to reach their potential. He’s a popular character and will be missed by the group. I’m sure he’ll be an asset for the Academy.”

Tom McStravick said:

“As a Club, we’d like to thank Karl for everything he has done for the first team. It’s always pleasing to see someone, who has close connections with BPA, help the first team and he’s had a positive impact on our recent goalkeepers’ careers. Even though it’s a blow to lose him for the first team, we’re pleased he’ll continue to coach at the Club. His experience and coaching skills will help the next generation of goalkeepers at BPA.”

The Club is looking for an experienced goalkeeper coach who has appropriate coaching qualifications and has a proven track of developing goalkeepers. The new goalkeeper coach must fresh ideas, strong communication ideas and bring a best-in-class performance and winning mentality. Importantly, the new coach needs to mirror the club’s values of belonging, passion and ambition and be a strong fit for the manager, assistant manager and the current playing group.

Expressions of interest need to be sent by email to Thomas.McStravick@bpafc.com before Saturday 1 August.
