Matchday Preview: Bradford (Park Avenue) vs. Bridlington Town

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Date: Friday, 13th December 2024
Kick-Off: 7:45 PM
Venue: Horsfall Community Stadium

Bradford (Park Avenue) host Bridlington Town tonight in the Northern Premier League East Division, as the Green Army looks to bounce back after a recent loss at Carlton Town and maintain their push for the playoffs. Bridlington, meanwhile, aim to recover from a difficult run of form and climb away from the lower reaches of the table.

Recent Form

Bradford (Park Avenue):
The Avenue have been a mixed bag in their last six outings. A thrilling 4-1 win against Sherwood Colliery showcased their attacking prowess, with Jack Goodman, Ted Lavelle, Iyrwah Gooden, and Brad Williams all finding the net. However, inconsistency on the road has been costly, most recently in a 2-1 loss to Carlton Town.

  • Last 6 Matches:
    • Bridlington Town (A): 1-0 W
    • Bishop Auckland (H): 1-1 D
    • Newton Aycliffe (A): 1-3 L
    • Dunston (H): 1-1 D
    • Sherwood Colliery (H): 4-1 W
    • Carlton Town (A): 1-2 L

Bridlington Town:
Bridlington’s form has been equally inconsistent, with solid home wins against Heaton Stannington and Sherwood Colliery offset by heavy defeats to Ossett United and Emley AFC. A tough 0-2 loss to Newton Aycliffe and a recent East Riding Cup penalty heartbreak to Hull United will have tested their resolve.

  • Last 6 Matches:
    • Hull United (H): 2-2 D (Lost on penalties)
    • Sherwood Colliery (A): 2-0 W
    • Ossett United (H): 2-5 L
    • Heaton Stannington (H): 1-0 W
    • Newton Aycliffe (H): 0-2 L
    • Emley AFC (H): 0-2 L

Key Players

Bradford (Park Avenue):

  • Connor Shanks and Paddy Sykes are the club’s joint top scorers with six goals apiece, providing a constant threat in the final third.
  • Dan Francis (5 goals) and Ben Blythe (2 goals) have also contributed significantly, with Francis excelling both defensively and offensively.
  • New Signings Iyrwah Gooden & Jack Goodman, both fresh from scoring against Sherwood Colliery, adds a spark of creativity and energy in attack.

Bridlington Town:

  • Danny Earl and Sam Leverett, with four goals each, lead the attacking line for Bridlington and will be key if they are to unlock Bradford’s defense.
  • Tom Allan, a seasoned defender, offers stability and leadership as stand-in captain of the team, after injury is expected to keep Simon Heslop to the subs bench.

Tactical Battle

Bradford will aim to dominate possession and utilize the pace and technical quality of their forward line. Craig Elliott’s side has been particularly strong at home, and their ability to create chances from wide areas will be crucial. Bridlington will likely adopt a counter-attacking approach, focusing on defensive solidity and looking to capitalize on set-pieces and quick transitions.

League Context

  • Bradford (Park Avenue) sit 8th in the table with 32 points from 19 games. A win tonight could see them close the gap on the playoff places and maintain momentum in their promotion push.
  • Bridlington Town, in 16th place with 20 points, are looking to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap. A positive result tonight could provide much-needed breathing space.

Previous Meeting

The last encounter between these two sides ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Bradford at Bridlington, with Dan Francis scoring the decisive goal. Bradford will hope for a similar result, while Bridlington will be out for revenge.

Bradford (Park Avenue) Strengthens Squad with Signing of Defender Keenan Ferguson and Midfielder Brad Williams

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) is pleased to announce the signing of Keenan Ferguson and Brad Williams, who both join the club on deals until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Keenan Ferguson

Keenan Ferguson, a talented defender, brings a wealth of experience and tactical acumen to Bradford (Park Avenue)’s defensive line-up. Ferguson began his career in the academies of Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur, where he honed his skills before joining Boston United after impressing during a pre-season trial in 2021.

Ferguson became a mainstay for the Pilgrims during his debut campaign, excelling on both the right and left flanks as the team reached the National League North play-off final. His adaptability and defensive prowess solidified his reputation as a reliable and versatile player.

In June 2023, Ferguson transitioned to Spennymoor Town, making over 25 competitive appearances during his tenure there. Now, at 24 years old, he brings his considerable experience and familiarity with Head Coach Craig Elliott’s management style, gained from their time together at Boston United, to strengthen Bradford (Park Avenue)’s depth, defensive structure, and strategic approach.

On the signing of Keenan, First Team Manager Craig Elliott commented;

“Keenan is somebody I have worked with before at Boston United.

“He is a very good 1v1 defender that can also give us good quality in the final third.

“He has a good experience at some big clubs and a great lad off the pitch so I am really pleased to have him on board.”

Brad Williams

In addition to Ferguson’s signing, Bradford (Park Avenue) can confirm the signing of Brad Williams on a contract extending through the end of the season. Recently released by Harrogate Town, Williams is returning to a familiar environment, having previously represented Bradford (Park Avenue) in January while on loan from Harrogate. He also scored in his debut at the Sherwood game in November, coming on to replace the injured Myles La Bastide.

Welcome to the Green Army!

The club extends a warm welcome to Keenan and Brad as they join the Green Army family. Their integration is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the club’s objectives, and supporters eagerly anticipate their contributions on the pitch.

Carlton Town 2-1 Bradford (Park Avenue): Avenue Fall Short in Play-Off Push Amid Stormy Conditions

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) missed an opportunity to move into the play-off spots on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Carlton Town. The match, one of only three played in the league amidst the challenging weather brought by Storm Darragh, saw Avenue struggle to capitalize on key chances and remain eighth in the Northern Premier League East Division, three points off the play-off places.

The first half was largely dictated by the horrendous conditions in Nottinghamshire. Carlton looked the more dangerous, with Alex Howes narrowly missing the target and Niall Davie forcing Avenue goalkeeper Jack Hall to tip over a wind-assisted corner that almost flew straight in. Hall also denied Charlie Carter’s overlapping effort, keeping Avenue in the game.

Bradford came closest to breaking the deadlock when Iyrwah Gooden’s pinpoint free kick found Mark Beevers, whose powerful header rattled the crossbar. It was a missed opportunity that would prove costly as Carlton came out firing in the second half.

Within a minute of the restart, Alex Howes put the hosts ahead with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, following Avenue’s failure to clear their lines. Hall produced more heroics to deny Carter twice in one-on-one situations, but Oliver Clark doubled Carlton’s lead in the 65th minute. A half-cleared free kick fell to Clark, who chested the ball down and volleyed home a sublime finish.

Carlton nearly extended their lead further, with Nathan Watson narrowly missing the target. Bradford eventually found a lifeline in the 88th minute when a wind-assisted free kick caused chaos in the Carlton box, allowing Ben Blythe to bundle the ball home. Despite a frantic final push and extended stoppage time, Avenue couldn’t find the equalizer, falling to just their second defeat in 13 games.
