Introducing Our New Reserves Squad: Owen Murphy on Building the Bridge to First Team Football

posted in: News, Reserves News | 0

With a renewed focus on player development and progression, Bradford (Park Avenue) are proud to reintroduce our Reserves squad for the 2025/26 season. Managed by Owen Murphy, the side will compete in the West Yorkshire League Division 2, playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between the Academy and Craig Elliott’s first team. We caught up with Owen to talk about his plans, philosophy, and hopes for the season ahead.

Building the Squad

Can you talk us through the process of identifying and selecting players for the reserves?
“Identifying players for the reserves has been fairly straightforward so far. I’ve mainly looked at our current academy players who had strong seasons last year—those capable of stepping into men’s football, and some already have. Recruiting from outside the club has been a little more challenging, but we’ve managed to bring in some exciting additions too.”

How much of the squad is made up of returning players versus new signings or academy graduates?
“The majority of the squad will be made up of academy graduates. Some will play big roles, others will be involved more gradually, but they’ll all be part of what we’re building. We’ve also welcomed back a few players who’ve been with us in previous seasons. That says a lot—they want to be part of this journey again.”

Style, Structure & Development

What style of play are you aiming to implement with the reserves this season?
“Style of play is always a debated topic in football. I want us to press from the front and be aggressive. We’ve got the players to play out from the back and be attacking, but adaptability is key. Not every pitch or opponent will allow for pretty football. These lads need to learn to win in all sorts of conditions.”

How closely will the reserves mirror the tactics and training of Craig Elliott’s first team?
“They have to be similar, otherwise having a reserves squad doesn’t make sense. Both Craig and I want to build winning teams that play attractive football but can grind out results when needed.”

How important is the reserves squad in bridging the gap between youth football and the senior side?
“It’s absolutely vital. It’s something we’ve missed over the past few seasons. Before, we’d send our academy players out to other clubs. That worked at times, but now we can keep them in-house and track their development more closely.”

How do you plan to support players who are on the verge of first-team football?
“I’ll support them by building on their strengths. If they want to break into the first team, they need to outperform the players currently holding those shirts. They’re hungry for the opportunity—I’ll mentor them through the season and use my own experiences to guide them.”

Goals & Expectations

What are your main objectives for the reserves this year—development, results, or both?
“Development is the standout aim. The objective is to prepare players so Craig has quality options from within the reserves and academy when needed. That said, we’re in this to win. I’m not going to naively say we’ll win the league, but we’ll aim to beat everyone we face. That winning mentality is key.”

How will you measure success at the end of the season?
“Success will be both collective and individual. As a squad, we’ll look at what we’ve achieved together. Individually, players will have their own goals. I’ll be sitting down with them soon to set those targets and we’ll review them throughout the season.”

Are there plans for joint training or tactical sessions with the first team?
“Hopefully, yes. That would be a great step forward. It would give Craig a chance to directly implement his style with the players on the brink of stepping up. It’s something we’d like to build on as part of the club’s wider vision.”

A Personal Mission

What excites you the most about leading the reserves at Bradford (Park Avenue)?
“The size and stature of the club is always a draw. But for me, I’ve been here nearly three years and have progressed as a coach every season. This is the perfect opportunity to test myself in men’s football as a coach and manager. I love the challenge, I love the game—and the chance to win and develop talent at the same time really excites me.”

Bradford (Park Avenue) Sign Prolific Striker George Doyle

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are thrilled to confirm the signing of 26-year-old forward George Doyle, who joins the club following a remarkable goal-scoring season with Golcar United.

Doyle netted an incredible 35 goals during the 2024/25 campaign, having joined Golcar in October 2023. His clinical finishing and intelligent movement in and around the box made him one of the most feared strikers in the division.

His journey to Avenue has been anything but ordinary. Doyle began making a name for himself at Emley AFC between 2020 and 2022, rising through the U23 ranks to the first team and scoring 19 goals across his time there. His standout performances earned him the Non League Yorkshire Player of the Month award in February 2022, securing over 1,000 votes.

In 2022, he made the bold move to Australia to play for Buderim Wanderers, where he continued his fine form, scoring 16 goals during the 2022/23 season.

A return to West Yorkshire followed in 2023, signing with Golcar United. After a strong start, Doyle exploded into life during the 2024/25 campaign with a phenomenal 35-goal haul, underlining his reputation as a natural goalscorer.

Born and raised in Salendine Nook, Doyle began his football journey locally before earning a scholarship opportunity in Kentucky, USA, through the ProSoccer agency while at Huddersfield New College. Though his time in the States was cut short, it instilled a strong sense of independence and resilience that continues to drive his footballing career.

Manager Craig Elliott is confident Doyle has what it takes to succeed at the next level:

“George is a player that our scouts have been monitoring closely and we’ve had nothing but positive reports. I’m really excited to see how he develops and steps up to the league.

“He scored a lot of goals last season and I’ve no doubt he’s capable of making the step up. While it’s important we bring in experienced players from higher up the pyramid, it’s just as vital to strike a balance by signing hungry players who want to develop and improve – and George fits that perfectly.”

Doyle now links up with Craig Elliott’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season, bringing with him an outstanding track record and a hunger to prove himself once again.

Welcome to Bradford (Park Avenue), George!

Conor Qualter Signs for Bradford (Park Avenue)

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are pleased to announce the signing of experienced central defender Conor Qualter ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old arrives from Ossett United, where he made 38 appearances last season and scored once. His no-nonsense style and consistent performances were a key part of Ossett’s impressive turnaround in the second half of the campaign — something that caught the eye of Avenue’s management team.

Manager Craig Elliott spoke highly of his latest addition:

“Conor is a player I know very well. He has a great winning mentality. He’s a big, strong lad and will give us lots of aggression, plus he’s very versatile in a few positions. He played a big part in Ossett United’s revival in the second part of the season. Me and Danny (Ellis) both liked his no-nonsense style and he is the type of player we need for next season.”

Qualter started his career at Leeds United before moving to FC Halifax Town, gaining senior experience through loans at Northwich Victoria, Kendal Town, and Ossett Town. In more recent years, he’s represented Selby Town and Tadcaster Albion, before making his mark at Ossett.

He also brings international pedigree, having featured in the Republic of Ireland Under-19 setup earlier in his career.

A tough, experienced presence at the back, Qualter adds depth, character, and leadership as Bradford (Park Avenue) build towards a strong 2025/26 campaign.

Welcome to the Horsfall, Conor

Experienced Midfielder Prince Ekpolo Signs for Bradford (Park Avenue)

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are delighted to announce the signing of experienced midfielder Prince Ekpolo, who joins the club on a deal running through to the end of the 2025/26 season. The 31-year-old becomes the latest new addition to Craig Elliott’s squad ahead of the upcoming campaign in the Northern Premier League East Division.

Now aged 31, Ekpolo joins Avenue following an impressive spell with Guiseley, where he made 48 appearances last season. During the 2023/24 campaign, he featured 37 times and found the net five times, underlining his consistency and importance in midfield over the past two years.

Ekpolo brings a wealth of experience and a strong pedigree to the club, having built a solid career across both Spanish and English football. He began his footballing journey in Spain with Nàstic U19s, before moving to Pobla de Mafumet CF, the farm team of Gimnàstic de Tarragona. He later played for CE Morell and Reus B, continuing his development before making the switch to English non-league football.

Since arriving in England, Prince has gone on to represent Glossop North End, Guiseley, and AFC Telford United, gaining a reputation as a commanding and reliable presence in midfield.

Manager Craig Elliott was full of praise for the new arrival:

“Prince is such a superb signing for us. He brings much-needed physicality and endless energy in midfield. He has good experience of playing at big clubs at a much higher level and only last season played a big part in helping Guiseley narrowly lose out on promotion.

To attract a player of this pedigree to BPA shows a real intent and I have to thank our chief scout and everyone at the club for helping and working hard to make this happen.”

Everyone at the club is excited to welcome Prince to the Horsfall for the first time, and we look forward to seeing him in green and white this season.

Welcome to Avenue, Prince! 👑💚

Jack Hall Returns to Avenue on Deal Until End of Season

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are thrilled to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Jack Hall on a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Supporters will remember Jack from his impressive loan spell at Horsfall between October and December last year, during which he made 15 appearances, kept 4 clean sheets, and played a key role in 7 wins and 4 draws. His composure, shot-stopping, and command of the box made him a firm favourite during his time with the Green Army.

Hall joins Avenue following his release from Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. A standout performer for Wednesday’s U21s, Jack also boasts international pedigree, having kept a clean sheet on his England U18 debut in a 3-0 win over Russia in 2021. He signed professional terms with the Owls in July 2024 and spent significant time training with the first-team setup.

After departing Avenue at the turn of the year, he spent the remainder of the season on loan at Bridlington Town, where he made 11 appearances and contributed to 6 wins and a draw.

The club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to the Development Fund for their support in helping secure this signing. Without their continued backing, deals like this simply wouldn’t be possible.

Jack becomes the latest addition to Craig Elliott’s squad as Avenue gear up for the season ahead — and we can’t wait to see him back between the sticks at Horsfall.

Defender Charlie Winfield Signs for Bradford (Park Avenue)

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are pleased to announce the signing of Charlie Winfield, a talented and tenacious defender who arrives at the Horsfall Community Stadium ahead of the new campaign.

The 22-year-old brings with him a strong pedigree and valuable experience across several levels of the game. Charlie began his football journey with Barnsley FC, joining their academy at the age of 10 and progressing through the youth ranks to become a first-year scholar at 16. He later featured for both the U21 and U23 sides, showcasing his defensive capabilities and composure on the ball.

In 2021, Winfield took his first steps into senior football with a loan move abroad to Danish second-division outfit Esbjerg fB. He made 16 appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists, before an ACL injury in December of that year unfortunately cut his loan short and sidelined him for a year.

Following his recovery, Charlie joined Alfreton Town on loan in February 2023 to regain match sharpness, and later that year made his first-team debut for Barnsley in a Carabao Cup clash against Tranmere Rovers, where he marked the occasion with an assist in a 2-2 draw at Oakwell.

After departing Barnsley at the end of the 2023/24 season, he gained further experience with a short spell at Darlington, before signing for Worksop Town. He would then spend a highly productive loan spell at Bridlington Town, where he became a key figure in their defence, making 32 appearances and scoring twice.

A composed and athletic left-sided defender, Charlie now makes the move to Bradford (Park Avenue) as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

First Team Manager Craig Elliott had this to say on the signing:

“Charlie is a fast, attack-minded player who can operate anywhere down the left side. During his loan spell at Bridlington last season, I thought he was one of the best left-backs in the league.

“He was a player in high demand, so I’m absolutely delighted we’ve managed to bring him to Bradford (Park Avenue). He’s still at a very young age, and I can only see him continuing to improve.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him this season.”

We’d like to welcome Charlie to the Horsfall and look forward to seeing him in Avenue colours as part of the Green Army!
