Bradford (Park Avenue) claim biggest win of the season in 4-1 thriller vs Sherwood Colliery.

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Date: Saturday, December 2, 2024
Venue: Horsfall Community Stadium

Bradford (Park Avenue) returned to winning ways in style with a commanding 4-1 victory over Sherwood Colliery at the Horsfall Community Stadium. Goals from Jack Goodman, Ted Lavelle, Iyrwah Gooden, and Brad Williams sealed the win, ending a three-match run without a victory and moving Avenue closer to the playoff spots with a game in hand.

Avenue began with purpose and had strong appeals for a penalty within the first 10 minutes when Connor Shanks’ cross appeared to strike a Sherwood defender’s hand, but the referee waved play on.

Just minutes later, Jack Goodman broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, racing onto a ball played in behind the defence. With composure, he outpaced the covering defender and slotted home from close range.

Avenue doubled their advantage in the 21st minute when the ball fell kindly to Ted Lavelle on the edge of the box. With time to pick his spot, he unleashed a powerful strike that left the Sherwood goalkeeper, Jordan Pierrepont, with no chance.

Avenue had the chance to extend their lead further before halftime when Goodman won a penalty, but the forward struck his effort wide. Moments later, Connor Dimaio unleashed a long-range strike that forced a superb save from Pierrepont, keeping Sherwood just about in the game at 2-0 heading into the break.

The second half began much as the first ended, with Avenue on the front foot. Shanks came close to adding a third, delivering a low cross that somehow evaded everyone in the box.

Sherwood threatened briefly through Harry Birchumshaw, whose curling effort was well saved by Jack Hall. However, Avenue reasserted their dominance on the hour mark as Iyrwah Gooden bundled the ball home from close range to make it 3-0.

Sherwood pulled one back shortly after when goalkeeper Hall conceded a penalty for a foul in the box. Mason Lee stepped up and confidently converted to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 85th minute when Sherwood’s Robson Doolan was sent off for a second yellow card after a poor challenge on the edge of the box. Avenue capitalized immediately, with substitute Brad Williams receiving the ball on the right and firing a brilliant shot into the far corner to round off the scoring at 4-1.

The victory was a much-needed boost for Craig Elliott’s men, who head into next weekend’s clash with Carlton United full of confidence as they aim to break into the playoff positions.

Key Moments:

  • 16′ Jack Goodman opened the scoring with a composed finish.
  • 21′ Ted Lavelle doubled Avenue’s lead with a powerful strike.
  • 31′ Goodman missed a penalty to keep the score at 2-0.
  • 60′ Iyrwah Gooden made it 3-0 with a close-range effort.
  • 68′ Mason Lee scored for Sherwood from the penalty spot.

  • 86′ Brad Williams sealed the win with a brilliant finish.

NEW SIGNING: Winger Iyrwah Gooden Joins Bradford (Park Avenue)

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) are thrilled to announce the signing of dynamic winger and centre-forward, Iyrwah Gooden, from Bury FC for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old brings a wealth of experience and attacking quality to Horsfall Community Stadium, having previously played for clubs such as Warrington Town, Chester, Clitheroe, Workington, Worksop, Emley, and Bury.

Gooden had a standout campaign last season at Emley AFC, where he played a crucial role in their promotion as champions from the NCEL, scoring an impressive 23 goals. This season, he has continued his fine form at Bury, featuring in 25 matches , scoring 7 goals, and providing 4 assists.

The club would like to extend a huge thank you to the Development Fund for their invaluable support in securing this signing. Their continued backing has been instrumental in bringing Iyrwah to the club and strengthening our squad as we push for promotion this season.

First Team Manager Craig Elliott shared his thoughts on the signing:
“Since coming into BPA, I have been actively looking for wingers that suit my system and the way I like to play. Iyrwah is a player that ticked all my boxes for the criteria of player I wanted in my team.

“I have been trying for a while to bring him in for a few reasons, I feel he is the right age to improve, is Yorkshire-based, and fits in with our budget at BPA. So I am delighted and thankful to the Club and Development Fund for supporting this transfer.

“He’s an exciting winger that can score and create goals. This is the type of player I want to bring in for the next phase of improving the team.”

Gooden is available for selection immediately, and fans can look forward to seeing him in action this weekend. Stay tuned to our socials for updates as we visit Cleethorpes Town on Saturday for a 3pm KO.

Join us in giving Iyrwah a warm Green Army welcome! Let’s show our support as he begins his Avenue journey.

Bradford (Park Avenue) 1-1 Dunston UTS: Points Shared at Horsfall in Promotion Clash

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

Bradford (Park Avenue) battled out a 1-1 draw with Dunston UTS in a tightly contested encounter at Horsfall Community Stadium on Saturday. Both teams, eyeing a surge into the Northern Premier League East Division play-off spots, had to settle for a point in this gritty encounter.

The Green Army started brightly, creating early chances that tested Dunston goalkeeper Dan Lowson. Connor Shanks set up Ben Blythe, whose low drive forced a strong save from Lowson. Moments later, Kareem Hassan-Smith’s inviting cross caused panic in the Dunston defence, narrowly avoiding an own goal.

Avenue’s persistence paid off just after the half-hour mark. Kareem Hassan-Smith, a standout performer on the day, delivered a moment of magic. Driving down the right, he cut inside and unleashed a fierce shot across Lowson, finding the far corner to give Avenue a deserved lead.

However, just before the break, Dunston struck back with their first significant opportunity. Dan Turner equalized with a sublime curling effort from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Jack Hall no chance.

The second half saw both sides push for a winner in a game filled with high energy and commitment. Hassan-Smith continued to torment the Dunston defence, delivering dangerous balls into the box, but the visitors stood firm.

Dunston’s JJ O’Donnell had a chance to turn the game in their favor with a volley, but Hall was equal to it, keeping the game level. Avenue came closest to claiming all three points in the dying stages when Ted Lavelle unleashed a thunderous 25-yard strike, only for Lowson to pull off a stunning save, tipping the ball over the bar.

  • Bradford (Park Avenue) are now seventh in the table with 29 points, level with Dunston but trailing on goal difference.
  • This draw maintains Avenue’s position within striking distance of the play-off places, with three points separating them from fifth-placed Stocksbridge Park Steels.

What’s Next? Avenue turn their attention to an important away fixture tomorrow night, traveling to face West Yorkshire rivals Ossett United. Kick-off at Ingfield is at 7:45 pm, as Bradford (Park Avenue) look to get back to winning ways against the second-bottom side.

MATCHDAY PREVIEW: BRADFORD (PARK AVENUE) VS DUNSTON UTS

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

This Saturday, the Horsfall Community Stadium will host an enticing Northern Premier League East Division showdown as Bradford (Park Avenue) take on Dunston UTS. With both teams closely matched in form and league standing, the stage is set for a thrilling encounter.

Recent Form

Looking at the last six matches, Dunston hold a slight edge as the 6th-best team in the form guide, while Avenue are positioned 8th. Both sides have experienced a mix of wins, draws, and losses recently, highlighting their unpredictability but also their resilience in challenging matches. A win today could propel Avenue as high as 5th, just inside the playoffs, if results go our way.

League Standings

The league table shows just how close these two sides are. Dunston occupy 6th place with 28 points, while Bradford (Park Avenue) are breathing down their necks in 7th, also on 28 points but with an inferior goal difference. This game is effectively a six-pointer in the race for playoff spots, adding an extra layer of significance to today’s clash.

Key Players to Watch

  • Dunston UTS: Scott Robson leads the line for Dunston with an impressive 8 goals this season, making him their most potent attacking threat. Supporting him are Sado Djalo and Dale Pearson, who have each contributed 7 goals, forming a dynamic trio that will test Avenue’s defense.
  • Bradford (Park Avenue): For Avenue, the attacking duo of Connor Shanks and Paddy Sykes have been in scintillating form, both netting 6 goals each so far. Dan Francis adds to the offensive threat with 5 goals, while Myles La Bastide may also see a return to the Horsfall after coming of the bench vs Newton Aycliffe, following his recovery from a groin injury. New signing Jack Goodman, the Centre-Forward joining from Doncaster Rovers on loan may also make his debut for the club.

What to Expect

Both teams boast prolific forwards, and with their recent form and proximity in the table, this game could come down to who handles the pressure better. Avenue will aim to make their home advantage count and keep Dunston’s attack at bay, while the visitors will look to impose their physical and clinical style.
