We are happy to announce the prices for Friday’s pre-season friendly as £6 for Adults, and £3 for everyone else.

There will also be a pre-season programme available at the game, priced at just £1.

In recent years, Avenue have loaned in some of the up and coming talent from Town’s u18 to u23s, including Shane Maroodza and David Adewoju in the 22/23 season, and Isaac Marriott who originally joined on a loan in 2018, before being signed in August 2020 and later sold for an undisclosed fee to Altrincham in December 2021.

Avenue first went head to head with Town back in September 1910, where we hosted a Division 2 game which ended 1-0 to the Terriers.

Our last recorded League or Cup game was on 26th September 1962, where Huddersfield took a 3-1 win in the League Cup.

Town also visited Bradford in our 2019/20 pre-season, which saw the sides play out a 2-2 draw. Goals came from Lewis Rathbone and Ryan Cresswell.

Our last 5 meetings with the magpies have all ended in equal points being shared between the teams, 4 of which had no goals scored.

Luke Rawson is the lone Avenue scorer in the last 5, who cancelled out Johnathan Ustabasis first half opener in the 77th minute.

MATCH REPORT – Thackley Pre-Season (H)

Our first outing of the 23/24 season came against Thackley FC in a friendly-match at Horsfall Stadium.

There were quite a few trialists on the team-sheet for Bradford, with a lot of them earning valuable game-time and showing lots of potential for Mark Bower, who looks on towards a promising season for the Avenue.

It didn’t take long for the home side to get the ball rolling, two-minutes on the clock and a corner was swung in which bounced and bobbled around before Mitch Lund fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Bradford continued to pile on the pressure throughout the downpour, which slowed the pace of the game temporarily.

Thackley had a few shots from distance but none of them were close enough to trouble Liam Hall in the Avenue goal.

Luca Havern doubled Park Avenue’s lead after hitting a powerful strike from inside the box beyond Thackley’s goalkeeper.

Thackley struggled to get a foot hold in the game and maintain a rhythm, leaving Avenue’s to exploit the space created.

A strong run from Myles La Bastide saw him brought down on the edge of the box, Will Longbottom scored a delightful free-kick to give Bower’s side a 3-0 lead at half-time.

As expected the team was heavily rotated at half-time with only Liam Hall and Zak Kersey keeping their places.

There were plenty of opportunities for Bradford to add to the scoreline throughout the second half but the chances went begging.

Thackley did manage to get a consolation goal just past the hour-mark, after the cross came in and the header was glanced in from close range.

Full-time: (3-1) BPA v Thackley FC

Attendance: 187

Bradford (Park Avenue) are next in action against Campion FC at Scotchman Road on July 11th with a 7:45pm kick-off.

PRESTON PERFECT FOR AVENUE PLANS

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

We are delighted to confirm the signing of talented striker Jordan Preston on a one-year deal with the club.

We’d also like to say a massive thank you to the Development Fund for their generous contribution to the signing.

Preston first joined Avenue on loan in November 2022 from Spennymoor Town, scoring 4 goals in 12 appearances for the Green Army.

Jordan will be combining playing with the First Team, whilst also coaching with the Academy.

Jordan has previously had spells at Guiseley, FC Halifax Town, Gateshead, and Boston United, and kicked off his career with Blackburn Rovers, joining the u18s and progressing to the u21s in 2013.

He later headed North of the border to play on loan for Ayr United, where he helped them win promotion in the 2015-16 season. He scored the first penalty for Ayr in the play-off finals.

We spoke to Skipper Luca Havern on the signing, and he had this to say;

“Jordan is a big signing for us, and we’re all glad to get him signed on amid interest from several other clubs.”

“We had our best period last season when Jordan was enjoying his football and scoring goals and the aim is to get him back to that level following his injury.”

Jordan was equally excited to get the deal over the line, adding this;

“I’ve been speaking to the club and the management since the start of the off-season, and in the end it was the best fit for me.”

Asked on why he chose Avenue, Jordan added;

“I think mainly the way they treated me with my injury last season, and how they looked after me. I enjoyed my football here, and it’s a bit of a long term opportunity for me at the club, so I’m looking forward to that.

You can watch Jordan’s interview alongside Academy Technical Director Thomas McStravick on the link below.

ODUNSTON TO STAY AT AVENUE!

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

We are thrilled to announce the re-signing of talented right-back Lucas Odunston!

Lucas originally joined the club in August 2021, and agreed terms today on a new one-year deal to keep him at the Horsfall for the 2023/24 Season.

Odunston’s journey with Bradford (Park Avenue) began two years ago when he made the move from Hull u21s. Since then, he has demonstrated tremendous growth and dedication on the field, making 29 appearances in his first season (21/22), followed by 38 in the 22/23 Season

Prior to his time with Hull, Lucas showcased his talents as a promising young player at Leeds u18s side, where he honed his skills and developed a strong footballing foundation.

Mark Bower was equally happy with the signing, saying this;

“Great to get Lucas over the line, he’s been a fantastic player over the last 2 seasons, and when away from injury he is often one of our best. His attitude on and off the pitch has been brilliant and he can really become a role model for the younger players in the squad.”

An interview with Lucas will be posted on Friday, so stay tuned to our Socials!
