Winfield returns

The Club is pleased to confirm left-back Charlie Winfield has agreed a one-year deal to stay at the Horsfall Community Stadium.

The 23 year old was a key figure in Avenue’s defence, bringing physicality at the back and creativity in attack.

Winfield started his career at Barnsley aged ten and progressed to become a scholar at 16. After spending time with the U21 and U23 sides, the defender moved on loan to Danish outfit Esbjerg. He made 16 appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists, before an ACL injury cut his loan short.

The young defender returned to England and joined Alfreton Town on loan in February 2023 to regain match sharpness. In the same year, he made his first-team debut for Barnsley in a Carabao Cup clash against Tranmere Rovers, adding an assist in a 2-2 draw at Oakwell.

Winfield left Barnsley at the end of the 2023/24 season and had spells at Darlington and Worksop Town. During his time with the Tigers, he had a productive loan spell at Bridlington Town, where he became a key figure in their defence, making 32 appearances and scoring twice, as well as picking up individual player of the year awards.

In his first pre-season at BPA, manager Craig Elliott made Winfield one of his first signings of 2024-25. The defender had an impressive first campaign in Avenue colours, making 43 appearances, seven as a substitute and scored five goals.

Speaking on his return, Winfield is looking forward to returning to West Yorkshire:

“I’m buzzing to stay at BPA and can’t wait to get started again. As a group, we have got more to give this season and we all know what we want to achieve.”

Bradford (Park Avenue) manager Craig Elliott is looking forward to working with Winfield again:

“Charlie had a really strong season and showed why he is one of the best attacking left backs in the league. His attitude is superb and he’s still a very good age. I can only see him getting better, which is a positive for us.”

Everyone at the Club is delighted to see Charlie return for next season, we wish him all the best in the green and white of Avenue. You can watch Charlie at the Horsfall next season with your 2026-27 season ticket.
