Development Fund Update

posted in: Development Fund News, News | 0

Over the last few months the Development Fund have been busy raising vital funds for the club. So want to take a moment to share progress on some of the recent events and future funding projects.

Beer Festival – This successful event took place over the first weekend of September where we managed to raise £2,200 plus £1,100 donated to the 2 charities (Horsfall Trust and Marie Curie), a good weekend was had by all.

Sportsman Dinner – Again another successful evening with great speakers in Mark Crossley and comedian Lea Roberts with further profits of £3,400 raised. Thanks to all sponsors and fans who attended these 2 events.

Having raised money from these events it now time to inform you how this money has been distributed, we have allocated £10k to the team to support further signings on the field of play, further monies have been pledged to support the stadium re-build/improvements with £1,000 going towards new windows in the club house which will help with ventilation, £3,600 towards repairs to the Avenue cafe, £1,500 for support railings in the main stand and finally £9,000 to re-site the bus stop stand. It’s hoped the majority of these improvements will be completed in the next couple of months.

To boost funds we have arranged a comedy/curry evening in the club house for Thursday 18 November 8pm, tickets are limited to 75 priced at £12 each. We have managed to get local comedian Lea Roberts who entertained so well at the sportsman dinner, so hurry to get your ticket from Dave Stordy in the programme shop or after the game in the bar. We do have an alternative to curry in pie’n’peas which must be ordered when purchasing your ticket.

We will also be holding a Christmas raffle with prizes of bottles of spirits, wine and beers, if any fans wish to contribute to the prizes these can be handed over to Dave in the programme shop before any home game (you will have to explain to the steward on the gate what the bottles are for).

Last weekend 5 supporters (Keith Dennison, Steve Horsfield, Keith Bonney, Sharon Burnett and Paula) completed a sponsored walk from Guiseley AFC to Horsfall stadium (total of 11 miles), whilst some will have sponsored individuals we realise that not having a home game game may have prevented some from doing so, we will therefore be having a bucket collection at the Blyth game to reward their efforts, monies raised will be split between the Horsfall Trust and the Development Fund, so please give generously.

Thank you for your continued support.

Jake Hibbs Fundraising Update

Through the efforts of the Development Fund and a fantastic response from supporters all across the country on Jake’s Go Fund Me page. We are pleased to announce that £6,000 has been raised for Jake.

This money has gone straight to Jake to support him and his family following his horrific injury at the Chorley game back in August. We have also yet to have an update from Chorley on the amount they raised as part of their fundraising efforts at the rearranged games. But anything on top of the amount already raised will be a huge support to Jake.

Jake had the following message for supporters when he spoke to the Development Fund:

I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everybody who has donated and supported me through this time. It’s greatly appreciated and will really help me and my family a lot. Hopefully it wont be too long until i am back playing and can thank you all in person.

Everyone at the club would like to wish Jake a speedy recovery and we are looking forward to seeing him back in an Avenue shirt asap.

“Thrilled” Bower scores Simon Richman as midfielder.

posted in: First Team News, News | 0

We are delighted to announce the signing of experienced midfielder Simon Richman!

Simon previously played at Altrincham FC and has a brilliant track record, winning awards at Port Vale, and signing on with Worcester City and then Altrincham in 2011 where he helped them win promotion out of the Conference North via playoffs in 2014 and winning the NPL title in 2017-18.

We spoke with gaffer Mark Bower about the appointment who had this to say:

“We are excited to get Simon in, with the injuries we have had in the centre of the park, we knew we had to act. Getting someone of Simon’s calibre in, with his experience and know how is a massive signing for us.

We are all thrilled to see what Simon can bring to the club. Stay updated on our twitter to see if he’ll be making his debut at the Gloucester City game today!
