MATCH REPORT – VICTORY FOR BRADFORD PARK AVENUE WOMEN!

posted in: Ladies Team News, News | 0

Date: 13/08/23
Venue: Bradford Academy
Competition: Pre-season Friendly

In an entertaining football match, Bradford Park Avenue Women emerged victorious against their opponents Athletico securing a well-deserved 4-3 win.

From the opening whistle, it was evident that both teams were determined to claim victory. Both sets of players displayed their commitment and competitive spirit.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams creating a number of scoring opportunities. However, it was Athletico who broke the deadlock and raced into a 2-0 lead.

As the second half commenced, Avenue made changes and out of possession looked to be more aggressive in midfield, working in pairs to press and regain possession back quickly, along with adopting a high press forcing the home side into making errors.

Avenue’s efforts were rewarded and they took the lead within 20 mins of the restart. 3 goals in quick succession for Avenue put the home team on the back foot, forcing them to push forward in search of more goalscoring opportunities to get something out of the game. Ultimately Athleticos opportunities were limited and despite a late rally from the home side Avenue added a fourth and held on for the win.

The victory will undoubtedly serve as a powerful boost to the team’s morale and aspirations for the season ahead.

Ladies Lose Out To Altofts

posted in: Ladies Team News | 0

So after a month off due to lockdown and only one training session under the belt we visited Altofts Ladies who were top of the league and already beaten us on our patch this season.

Altofts started strong keeping hold of the ball well with the Avenue Ladies staying disciplined and frustrating the higher opposition.

Altofts were getting frustrated and started making mistakes with no real threats at goal the Avenue Ladies nipped in stole the ball and counter attacked with purpose.

If it wasnt for the Altofts keeper it could have been 2 or 3 before have time with Kirsty Russell Nicole Chamberlain and Millie West carving out glorious oppotunities.

Avenue went into half time on the front foot and expecting Altofts pepper Avenues goal for the 1st 10 mins of the 2nd half, but that never came!

Avenue could have easily had two more great chances before Altofts broke the deadlock with at tap in at the back post when we failed to clear our lines.

10mins later it was 2-0 Altofts with the rain hammering down a long ball skidded off our defenders foot and left Altofts with a 1 on 1 with Annie Roberts.

The game was end to end in horrible conditions but as the 1st goal Altofts got the 3rd with a back post tap in from a corner.

By this point Avenue were playing 2-3-5 to try and finish the game on a high but it never came.

Full time 3-0 loss with a superb performance under the circumstance of the weather and lockdown but 1 very proud manager of the workrate and effort produced. All the players held their heads high and will feel it Monday at work.

Our next match is Farsley Celtic Juniors at Horsfall on Sunday 20th December.

Avenue ladies out of the FA Cup

posted in: Ladies Team News, News | 0

BPA 1 vs Ossett United 4

Bradford (Park Avenue) Ladies fall in FA Cup Preliminary Round against higher league opposition Ossett United, despite a strong showing.
It was the visitors who were quickest out of the blocks in the early stages, bringing out several great saves from Avenue goalkeeper Annie Roberts.

Ossett did break the deadlock after 10 minutes, when a probing pass broke through the Avenue back line, leaving Roberts 2 on 1 against the strikers, which Charlotte Adams was smart to convert.

A second was not long in coming, after another well worked move down the left opened up the Avenue defence and the Ossett striker slotted home from close range.

Avenue then had an excellent spell of dominance against the team from the higher division and could easily have been level, but spurned several chances from Kirsty Russell, bringing out saves from the Ossett keeper and Millie West rattling the woodwork.

Against the run of play, Ossett bagged a third when a cross looped over Annie Roberts in goal, before rebounding out off the post to a welcoming striker for a third to take Ossett in 3 goals up at half time.

The second half was much improved from Bradford (Park Avenue) and the visitors were finding less space in central areas.

Within minutes of the restart, Kirsty Russell had hit the post with two efforts, and Millie West forced the goalkeeper into a smart save.

Whilst Avenue had tightened up in central areas, Ossett were now finding space out wide and on the hour mark, two magnificent saves from eventual player of the match Annie Roberts kept the score down.

Avenue did register on the scoresheet when excellent play from Millie West set up Kirsty Russell who opened her account for the season from 12 yards out.

It could easily have been doubled minutes later when Russell broke the Ossett backline but fired just wide.

The game was effectively finished off after a counter attack as Avenue were pushing for a second. Great work up top from the Ossett midfield, followed by a great finish by Aleathia Smith.

Following the game, manager Neal Asquith had this to say, “Much improved second half from the girls against a very good opposition from the division above. Could have been a different story if we had converted our chances, but overall very happy with the performance and very much looking forward to taking this into our opening league game next week.”

Final Score: Bradford (Park Avenue) Ladies 1 vs Ossett United Ladies 4

Team: Roberts, McNulty, Nelson, Ingham, Chamberlain, Setchell (Nolan ‘45), Butler (Williams ‘80), Fisher (McUrich ‘45), Bell (Nyandoro ‘60), West, Russell(Mitchell ‘80)

Goal: Russell
